I did my Honours in Chemistry at UTAS in 2020 on the isolation of natural products from Australian native plants. Receiving an Honours Scholarship helped me focus on the process of discovery. Bioprospecting is important as many of the world’s pharmaceuticals either come directly from plants or are plant-derived substances. Australia has a wealth of untapped botanical resources. It was interesting to study in-depth two native species that are found throughout Tasmania. The hard work has paid off. I have enjoyed improving my skills, learning new techniques and made interesting discoveries.
